Crash Pad Information
- The entire purpose of a Crash Pad is to lay on the ground and get
stomped on over and over again. Ropes are probably the only piece
of climbing gear that receive more abuse. So if you¹re looking
around for a Pad, be sure you¹re getting more than just some
cheap foam jammed into a cheesy fabric shell.
- We put a lot of thought into the design of the Revolution Crash
Pad shells. Little bells and whistles sewn onto a pad have a tendency
to snag on rocks or bushes or even rip right off. We are strong believers
in keeping the external stuff to a minimum. We have selected some
very durable fabrics to maintain the life and function of our Pads
for years to come.
- The Velcro strips on the side and bottom flaps of our Pads are awesome.
They¹re simple, secure, unbreakable and very easy to open
and close. The ³hook² side of the Velcro faces away from
the ground to minimize it¹s collecting dirt, grass, lint or anything
else.
- We selected the foam and layers in our Crash Pads to accommodate
the types of falls they will receive. If you fall from a greater height,
you¹ll build up a lot more speed on the way down. The Uzi Pads
is suited for drops from about 6 feet up, so it¹s thinner, but
much firmer than the 12-Gauge, that has to absorb the impact of a
20-footer. The AK¹s foam is perfect for 10 foot plummets as well
as back falls from 2 feet up.
- There are a lot of other super-thick Crash Pads available today,
but thickness is irrelevant if the Pad doesn't cover much area. Since
it¹s almost impossible to estimate exactly where you will land
during a fall, we designed our Crash Pads to offer more ground coverage
than most other Pads.
- We ship our gear with UPS. They have three different size classes:
Standard, Oversize 1 and Oversize 2. Big deal, right? Well shipping
any Pad ain¹t cheap. All of our Pads are designed to give you
the largest size Crash Pad in each of those three size classes to
save you some dough.
- As comfy and convenient as it may be, we do not recommend using
any Pads as beds or chairs. This can wear down the foam and decrease
the life and use of your Pad. Look at it this way: you could use a
climbing rope to tow a car, but that¹s not the best use for it.
You want a lawn chair, go to Wal-Mart.
- There¹s one more issue we want to address regardless of whose
Crash Pad you¹re currently stomping on. Please minimize your
Pad usage. Crash Pads have the potential to cause serious erosion.
Good spotting can do the work of 4 Pads and have much less of an impact
on the environment.
